Richard D. Conn, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at home surrounded by his family and his hospice nurse, Annie. Richard was born December 14, 1939 in Akron, Ohio to Joe and Mary Alice Conn, who preceded him in death.
Richard graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with an undergraduate degree in business. He went on to obtain a graduate degree in Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Richard served from 1962 to 1968 as an Army Reservist. He started his banking career in 1963 with National City Bank in Cleveland, Ohio. Kansas City became home when Richard moved his family in 1968. Over a 40 year career, Richard worked at several Kansas City area banks, as a loan officer and bank president.
After retiring, Richard continued his interest in the stock market and investments, staying in the loop of current financial trends. His other interests included traveling, golf, and volunteering and playing cards with friends and family.
Over the years, Richard was involved in numerous community and charity organizations in the Kansas City area. He was very proud to be an active charter member of the Gladstone Rotary. Some of the other organizations Richard was most involved in included The Folly Theater, Quality Hill Playhouse and The Shepherd Center. Richard was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown Campus. He believed strongly it was important to show your faith by helping others versus just talking about it.
Richard is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julie Conn. They met at Miami University and were married on February 16, 1963 in Akron, OH. He is also survived by his daughter, Amy (Scott) Girth and son, Michael (Christy) Conn. He had seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Richard's greatest joys in life were his family, his faith, his friendships and giving to others.
A memorial services is scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Church of the Resurrection Downtown Campus. Please use the 1601 Grand Blvd Address for directions. Free parking is available off of 16th Street, behind the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the Salvation Army, United Methodist Church of the Resurrection or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
