Regina M. Hughes, age 70, died unexpectedly on March 11, 2023, at her home in Kansas City, Missouri and went to be with the Lord. Regina was born on August 19, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri to Louise (Lee) and Emery G. Stewart.
Regina graduated from Oak Park High School in 1970. After high school, Regina had her first daughter Lisa Neeley. A few years later, Regina met the love of her life, Don Hughes. Over the next few years, they had two more children, Tani Hughes and Victor Hughes. Sadly, Regina was left a widow due to a trucking accident when their son, Victor, was only three months old. Left to carry on with her three children, Regina worked at her mother’s establishments and other various jobs to support her family. Regina never remarried.
Her children remember her as a God loving woman who encouraged them to do what made them happy. Regina’s grandchildren were grateful to be able to spend a lot of their childhood with her while she babysat them. She was a headstrong, witty, and devoted individual who had a very unconventional but hilarious sense of humor. She undoubtedly loved the Lord and her family. She was a dedicated member of the many churches throughout her life. She was an avid reader and loved a good murder mystery. Regina also loved to knit and donated countless blankets to homeless shelters.
She is preceded in death by her father, Emery G. Stewart; her husband, Donald Hughes; her mother, Louise Lee; and her sister, Mary Hughes.
Regina is survived by her children; Lisa, Tani, and Victor; her grandchildren; Anthony, Alanah, Spencer, Adam, Brendan, Phoenix, Anna, David, Brittany, Lucas, and Conner; and her great-grandchildren; Teagan, Tayven, Dante, Marcus, Alaia, and Damion.
Graveside is scheduled on Friday April 7th at 11:00 AM at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery with a celebration of life to happen at a later date. All are welcome to come and celebrate Regina’s life.
