Nhu Quy Tran, aged 89, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. Born in Vietnam on January 2, 1935, to Lang Xuan Tran and Rung Thi Trinh, Nhu sought refuge in South Vietnam in 1954, where he later met his future wife, Tam Vu, in 1962. The couple was blessed with five sons.
In July 1983, after orchestrating a daring escape from Vietnam, Nhu arrived in the United States as a refugee with his youngest son. He was later reunited with his wife and other sons in Kansas City.
A devout member of the Vietnamese Catholic community and Đoàn Liên Minh Thánh Tâm, Nhu devoted his life to his faith and expressed his artistic talents through numerous graphics and sculptures for his church, enriching the community he cherished.
Nhu is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Tam Vu; his sons, Duc Tran (married to Trang Nguyen), Chi Tran (married to Huyen-Chi Le), Kyle Tran (married to Ngoc-Thuy Nguyen), and Vien Tran (married to Lisa Nguyen); and his cherished grandchildren, Dominick, Anthony, Colton, Caden, Andrew, Alexander, Addison, and Blaise. He was predeceased by his son, Khanh Tran.
Visitation*will take place on April 18 and 19, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on April 20 at the Church of the Holy Martyrs, 4101 E 105th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64137. This will be followed by a burial service at 1:00 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home. A luncheon will be provided at the funeral home after the burial service until 4:00 PM.
Nhu's legacy of faith, artistry, and courage will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
