Mike was a carpet layer, beginning his trade at Lawless and Johnson in 1960. He was a member of IUPAT District Council 3, Local 1179 and a member of the Retirement Club. He also served in the Naval Reserves for six years.
He loved his job and took pride in his work. Well known for his craftsmanship and work ethic, he traveled the country laying carpet in AMC Theaters. He was the Mid American winner of The World Floor Covering Associations contest in 1999, going on to compete in the Surfaces National Installation finals in Las Vegas.
In addition to laying carpet, Mike had a talent for plumbing, carpentry, construction, electrical work, and auto repair. In fact, Mike could fix anything broken. He was the go-to guy for anyone who needed help, which he always gladly offered.
Mike loved his family and was usually the cook at family gatherings. A skilled outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was active in the Elks Lodge 2376, and he belonged to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierce Michael Lawless, Sr., and Pauline T. Waltermire, and a daughter, Jacqueline Porter. He is survived by Louise, his wife of 38 years; daughters Jacinda Ramsey and Jennifer Yotti; son and daughter-in-law Joe and Pim Yotti; son-in-law Steve Porter; son and daughter Michael Joseph and Julie Lawless; sister Pat Neal; brothers Bill Lawless and Jim Lawless; brother and sister-in-law John and Jane Lawless; grandchildren Sarah Garrison and Sam Watson; Nick, Nathan, Noah, and Nash Porter; and Annabelle, Edmund, and Aidric Yotti; as well as numerous extended family.
Mike was an extraordinary person, loved and respected by those who were fortunate to know him. He is warmly remembered and greatly missed.
