Mary Ann Green of Birmingham, MO passed away July 17, 2014 at home. She was born in Blairstown, MO to Robert Lester and Nora Frances (Stewart) Gregory on September 25, 1928. She started school in Chilhowee, MO, finished in Holden, MO. She moved to Kansas City with her parents in 1946, met and wed Thomas M. Green. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents, R.L. and Nora Gregory; brother, James E. Gregory; sister, Goldie Ellen Witter; sister-in-law, Margery Gregory; grandsons, Thomas Claude Minnis and Robert Edward Simpson; great grandsons, Michael Thomas Hoffman and Alexander Scott Cox.
She is survived by her four daughters, Nora Margaret (Wilbur) Becker, Mary Ellen (Jim) Carter, Virginia Ann (Larry) Cox, and Teresa Sue (Clifford) Henderson all of Kansas City, MO; 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Also her African Grey Parrot, Karl Dean and her loving dog Prissy.
Ann wore many hats in her lifetime. She had a work permit at age 14 to work summers to put herself thru school. After school she worked as a Multiple Biller at Montgomery Wards. Then she married Tom and moved to North Kansas City. After her girls were born, she worked for Buck’s Koffee Kup, then to Buck’s Mobile Catering. When they closed, Ann went to Turner Auto Transport. They sold to Convoy Company. She retired from Convoy/Ryder Auto Transport after 19 ½ years as Chief Dispatcher. Then she brought her 86 year old father to live with her until his death in 1994. Daughter, Teri Sue got her hooked on genealogy and granddaughter, Jennifer taught her how to use a computer and she kept busy finding her long lost kin folk. The family wishes to thank Kate Brown and Sharon Million for helping Ann stay in her home as long as possible. Thank you to the Northland Hospice for helping the family during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be 10 AM Monday July 21, 2014 at White Chapel Funeral Home with burial to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens next to Tom. The Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Northland Hospice.
