Marjorie Mae McCray

Marjorie Mae Lindberg was born to Edwin Eric and Amelia Beda (Fjell) Lindberg, on June 30,1926, in Leduc, Alberta, Canada. She spent her childhood amongst three sisters, two brothers and her step-father, James Herron, and grew up helping at her family’s farm, hotel, post-office and general store.

In 1943, Marjorie met Harlan “Barney” McCray of Salina, Kansas while Harlan was in the Army working on the Trans-Canadian Railroad. On May 11, 1945, they married and then moved to the United States to reside in Kansas.

In 1953, after moving to Kansas City, Marjorie and Barney started a family that would grow to 36 descendants in her lifetime. Marjorie’s main vocation was a seamstress throughout her life, though in her retirement years her time was strictly for children grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marjorie was a loving caretaker for her busy and loving family. She took phone calls at any time, went to sporting events whenever she could, and made sure none of her guests ever went hungry. Her sharp wit and amazing sense of humor were unmatched. For six decades she was a fixture at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where she always sat in the fourth row on the right side of the aisle.

She spent 63 years at her modest home in the Northland- it was a welcome place for her family to frequently congregate and home to many easily-found cookie jars. There was usually a Royals or Chiefs game on the television and fun games of Candyland or cards for everyone.

On her new journey Marjorie will reunite with those who preceded her in death: parents Amelia, Edwin, James; husband Harlan; brother Ralph; sisters Joan and Madeline; and son-in-law Jack.

She is survived by brother Robert Lindberg, sons Arthur and Robert (Kim); daughters Karen Thompson, Patricia Ibarra (John Lathrop) and Joan Jones(John); grandchildren Crissy, Devin, Roxanne (Jordan), Melissa (Will) and Eddie (Tiffany), Krystle, Robert II (Sarah), Jenny (Hollis) Daniel and Meghan; 21 great-grandchildren … and many loving nieces and nephews in Canada.

Funeral services for Marjorie will be at 10a.m. Saturday, June 30 (her birthday), at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 4947 Chouteau Drive, Kansas City, Missouri.
