Margaret was born on December 9, 1927, to Lee & Martha (Cooper) Sallee in Meadville, Missouri. She graduated from Wheeling High School in 1946. After High School she attended Chillicothe Business College (CBC) focusing on secretarial and bookkeeping.
Margaret and Vern Minor met via a blind date setup by mutual friends. They were married a few years later on May 22, 1949. They lived on the Plaza after they were married prior to moving to the Northland in 1952 and purchasing their first house.
Mother worked in the West Bottoms of Kansas City for a steel fabrication company during the 1951 flood. She was evacuated by boat during the flood. She was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker while her children were born and until her children were older. Mother then worked part time for the House of Fabrics, but always at home when her children were out of school. She later worked for Barnacle Hall and Midwest Seed Company as a bookkeeper.
Margaret was a Room Mother during her children’s elementary school years. She was also active with her son’s Cub Scouts Troop 289 & Boy Scout Troop 252, her daughter's Girl Scout Troop, Fairview Christan Church women’s groups and a member of the church choir. She was a member of Fairview Christian Church for 65 plus years.
Mother enjoyed flowers, working in her flower garden and quilting. She loved bargain shopping, collecting rocks and seashells, gatherings with families and friends. She also loved coffee, the sun, and the outdoors. Mother and Dad enjoyed the Lake of the Ozarks and their lake house they purchased for their family. They spent many summer days with their immediate and extended family at the Lake.
Mother and Dad purchased a 1929 Model A and were active members in the Model A Clubs of Kansas City and Model A Club of Northwest Missouri. They participated in numerous group tours with their Model A – traveling throughout Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska,
Mother was active within the Greenhaven Neighborhood association. She loved to cook and bake and was known for her award-winning Apple Pie! Mother had an extremely outgoing personality and knew no stranger. Her generous smile would light up a room and her laughter was contagious. She was adventurous.
She dearly loved all of her immediate family, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. This trait was evident in her daily activities.
Margaret was preceded in passing by her husband Vern, her parents Lee & Martha Sallee, her brother Loyal and sister-in-law Linde Sallee, her sister Opal Phillips & brother-in-law Bob Phillips, sister-in-law’s, and brother-in-law’s: Dorothy & Noble Turner, Margorie & Allen Lambert, Genevieve & Chestley Montgomery, and Kenneth & Inez Minor.
Margaret is survived by a son Gary (Gina Carter), a son Bob (Janice) a daughter Pam Grissom (Rob Jackson), 3 grandchildren Katie (Rob) Anderson, Austin (Amilinn) Minor, Matt (Shelbie Ruark) Grissom, 4 Great Grand Children Gavin Grissom, Leighana Anderson, Adeline Minor, Lucy Anderson, a sister Margery Hawk, many nieces and nephews, and even more great nieces and nephews.
