Laurie was born in Kansas City, MO on December 15th 1953 to parents Leonard “Bud” Meyers and Marian Holman.
She was born and raised in Parkville, MO and was a Park Hill High School graduate. Later Laurie would graduate from Park University, summa cum laude with a major in biochemistry. She went on to work for the Environmental Protection Agency as a chemist for 13 years before retiring.
Laurie married her sweetheart Michael James Baker on September 30th 1978 and soon welcomed their 4 children and set about teaching them. Her children remember her as a gentle and kind mother who encouraged them to chase their dreams.
Laurie was an accomplished musician, mastering the piano, clarinet, and had a beautiful singing voice. She also gave piano lessons to others including her daughter Rachel. She was passionate about changing the world through Christ and was an active and dedicated member of Harmony Vineyard Church. Laurie often volunteered on the prayer team, women's ministry and the unwed mothers group. She was a prayer warrior for her family, church, and all she knew. She took several mission trips to Estonia and spent much time praying for the hospital in Zambia, Africa. Laurie served Jesus with all her heart and soul. Her hobbies included jewelry making, card design, and antiquing.
Laurie is preceded in death by her parents Bud Myers and Marian Holman and her husband’s parents, Carl and Wanda Baker.
Laurie is survived by her husband Michael James Baker and their 4 children, Rachel Michelle Achille, Kristin Lee Baker, Eric James Baker, Matthew James Baker and wife Jennifer Loree Baker, brother Gregg Myers and sister Tutti Miller, and 6 grandchildren, Gabriella, Anthony, Vincent, Dominic, Hanna and Kamiah.
A visitation for Laurie will be held Monday, May 16, 2022 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm, the funeral service will start at 6:30pm both at Harmony Vineyard Church, 600 NE 46th St., Kansas City, MO 64116. A committal service will occur Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd., Leavenworth, KS 66048.
