Kathryn Carey, 90, passed away on March 3, 2023, in her home in Kansas City, Missouri. Kathryn was born on December 5, 1932, in Weir, Kansas, to Clarence E. Fichtner and Julia Opal Burton. Kathryn lived in Scammon, Kansas until she was ten years old and then moved to Kansas City, Kansas. She went to work at 16- as she wanted a telephone even though it was a party line. Kathryn was married at 18 to George Henry Carey on December 17, 1950, and they celebrated 50 years together. Kathryn owned and operated Fat Boys Drive-in for over 30 years. She was President of Eagles Aerie 187 and American Legion 199. Kathryn attended Northland Cathedral and helped with many ministries in the church.
Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Ethel George.
Kathryn is survived by her children Cathy Mills and Julie (Rick) Hanna, two sisters Elsie Jones and Eva Jo Eiken; grandchildren Charlene, Jenny (Josh), and Tony; great grandchildren Amanda, Sean, Dustin, Taylor, Andrea, and Jaden; great great grandchildren Madi, Ladd, Kaydence, Onyx, and Hazel; and step-grandchildren Brenda, Dana, and Jack.
A visitation for Kathryn will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023, from 10 to 11am, funeral service will start at 11am followed by burial all at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery.
