Thoughts and prayers for the Smith family, I will always remember what a sweet  grandmother June was at Mat and Zack's birthday's.

  My, my what a beautiful soul.  And look at that photo of the younger and stunningly beautiful June Smith.
 June was my loyal secretary (and executive assistant) for more than 20 years, at the Popham Law Firm.  I was probably in my mid-30s when this lovely lady interviewed to become my secretary.  She was excellent from the get-go--and, impossibly, actually got better over the years.  She formed an amazing duo with my long-time paralegal, Carol Vetter.
   Before June retired at the end of 2010, we had a retirement celebration on December 15th at the Majestic.  I recall sharing with her assembled Popham friends and  family some of my experiences and musings about June: How June always had the sweetest personality, a ready laugh, and the highest possible willingness to help her co-workers and all of our attorneys--whatever "rush job" (way too many of them in our profession)needed to get done.  When I (often) needed weekend work on upcoming trial Motions, instructions, or a huge brief, I would ask if she could come in, and she would look at me with a smile and say, "Just tell me when you need me...and I'll be there."  And of course, I could ALWAYS COUNT ON HER to cheerfully be here--but most importantly to deliver the highest quality  work product...no matter how many times I edited and re-edited, and, yes...re-edited. Her cheerful demeanor never wavered.  She even confessed that she actually "liked" working on briefs to help create and polish until WE were satisfied to turn it in as the finished product.
   June recovered from cancer to return to work; she overcame painful rheumatoid arthritis; she continued to pop in to see her Popham friends even after she retired.  She was, in sum, a true "Pophammer" in the best sense of this word coined by her fellow  Pophammer--John Kurtz:  This means she was a good  and a true friend to everyone who had the good fortune to cross her path.  This means June was committed to her work, and loyal to our firm throughout--and after--her career here.I love you, June.  Rest in peace.

June was a second mother to me. I spent many of my childhood years at her house playing with Rachel and then later we worked together at Popham. She taught me so many things, the least of them was to value life no matter whether it be human or animal. I will miss her terribly.

Junie was dearly loved by her whole family, relatives and also any stray animal that showed up at her door. She lived with us for a time when she was going to North Western University in Evanston Illinois.  She was not only beautiful on the outside but on the inside, which everyone who came in contact with her would attest to. Her beautiful smile was contagious as was her easy to come by laughter. She loved a good joke and a glass of good   "possideâ€, which was strong ice tea!  We still have the pitcher we used to make it in and I will always think of her when I do. She blessed the earth and everyone she came in contact with, with her warm and caring personality.
One of the more recent stories in my memory was one time when she came to visit us in California. I took her and my mom, Mary, to the Getty Museum and we had lunch at their restaurant. We weren't that hungry and ordered salads. The waitress had bragged about how wonderful they were and they were grilled. Well, we didn't really know what she meant but sure enough they came and the romaine leaves had been on a grill! They tasted horrible but the waitress was so proud of the â€œgrill marksâ€ on the lettuce we didn't complain. But the minute she left June started to laugh so hard she got tears in her eyes, and then we all started laughing and couldn't stop! She said well, I guess they cook different in California!  We all laughed every time we thought of that one.
 There were so many memories over the years. These final years, really no new memories were made which makes me so sad.  As we all age and continue to work and time is always scarce there never seems to be time for the important people who live far away. Even so we continue to love them and miss them and care about them so much. My mom and I will always remember her and sitting with all the aunts, uncles, her and my grandmother, her mother, my mother and cousins on the â€œstoopâ€ at the Fillmore house. Good times, good food and love.
She will be lovingly, and sorely missed by us and her family and friends!
With all our love, deep sorrow, and prayers for her and her family; the people she had worked with and all who knew her. We are all better for it!

I remember her as a very gracious person, always welcoming when I would visit.
I fondly recall an occasion long ago when I was in town and stopped by, unannounced, as she was making breakfast.  She graciously invited me to join her.  A great meal and great conversation, I always appreciated that.
Rest in peace sweet soul.
