June Irene Martel

June Irene Goode Martel, 85, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2019 in Kansas City, MO surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 22, 1934 in Kansas City, KS, June was one of ten children born to Charles and Agnes Goode. During the Korean War, she became “pen pals” with former high school classmate Ernie Martel, who was serving his country in the United States Navy. After he wrote her five letters in one day, they both knew they were in love and Ernie proposed to June on their first date following his discharge from the Navy. They were married in 1955 and remained devoted and completely inseparable until her passing. June was predeceased by her and Ernie’s son, Greg Martel of Jasper, TN. June was totally selfless and always thinking of others. She was a dedicated and tireless homemaker who took great joy in caring for her family. In addition to her husband Ernie, June is survived by her son, Ernie Bill (Gloria) Martel of Overland Park, KS; son, Kevin (Julie) Martel of Raytown, MO; daughter, Bonnie (Randy) Martel Kramer of Kansas City, MO; son, Chris (Shannon) Martel of Atlanta, GA; eleven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her. Funeral services will be private. The Martel family encourages everyone to make a donation to the charity of their choice in June’s loving memory.
