Joseph Bruce Dillon Sr., died October 12, 2016 surrounded by family as they sang and prayed him into the next life. Joe was born in Jacksonville, FL on May 28, 1954, the youngest of five children to the late Hugh Joseph Dillon and Marjorie Hughes Dillon. After graduating from Irmo High School in Columbia, SC in 1972, he attended the University of South Carolina where he was president of the Alpha Theta chapter of Zeta Beta Tau. He graduated from USC in 1976 with a degree in criminal justice. Upon graduation Joe served as a police officer for the West Columbia Police Department. Following his career as a police office, Joe began a career in sales. He worked at Westinghouse, ABB and his own electrical testing company, Dillon Engineering Associates before joining EPS as the Operations Manager for the Kansas City office in 2008. Joe moved up to Regional Director and then National Sales Director and this month marked his eighth anniversary with EPS. Customers always found him to be friendly, honest, extremely knowledgeable in his profession, and a man of great character. Joe was also a dedicated family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to travel and was particularly interested in anything tied to his Irish heritage. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and cooking out for his friends and family. He never met a stranger and exemplified the characteristic of a generous heart. Joe also found deep joy in working with the poor and homeless and spent time volunteering with organizations who addressed issues of poverty. Joe is survived by his loving wife Margaret, his six children, and ten grandchildren. Children include John Jones and wife Shannon, Tricia Dillon Thomas and husband Clay, Stephen Gasque and wife Erika, Joseph Bruce Dillon, Jr, and wife Elizabeth, Morgan Jones, and Amber Jones Ehler and husband Dominick. Grandchildren include Mason, Fields Katherine, Wellspring, and Wilder Greer Thomas; Harper Elliot; Molly Jones; Michael and Aubrey Rando; and Victoria and Riley Ehler. Joe is also survived by his brothers, G. Michael Dillon and wife Arline, Dan P Dillon and wife Sharon, John J Dillon and wife Ann, sister Marjorie Dillon Hazelwood and husband Jim as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends. A service of witness to the resurrection and thanksgiving for his life will be held Saturday, October 15th at 10:00am in the chapel of Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, KS. Following the memorial service family and friends will gather at The Alamo, Joe’s favorite bar, to tell stories and toast his life from 11:30am-2:30pm. Please dress casual per Joe’s request.
