He was born October 27, 1928, in Sharp, Arkansas, the son of Benjamin and Dora (Wrenfrow) Thompson.
John joined the United States Army in 1945 and served three terms as a Drill Sergeant, then making his home in the Kansas City area. He married Pearl Ruth Velaer on December 11, 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri, this union was blessed with three children.
He retired as a Forman at the Kansas City Stockyards. After retirement, John enjoyed playing golf, working as a golf marshal at Hodge Park. Other than playing golf, his passions were being an original KC Chiefs fan, country music, playing his guitar and other instruments especially at family gatherings, and his favorite passion was spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Dora Thompson; one daughter, Debbie Boucher; and seven brothers and sisters.
John is survived by his wife of 72 years, Pearl Ruth Thompson; one son, Stanley Thompson and one daughter, Gwendolyn Everman and husband, Dave; four grandchildren and their significant others; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
