She was born in Kansas City, MO to Leonard Kreinbring and Vivian Kreinbring.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Kreinbring, and Vivian Garrett; husband, Leo Hylton; step-father, Henry C. Garrett; and three brothers, Leonard Kreinbring, Jr., Charles (Chuck) Garrett, and William (Bill) Kreinbring.
She is survived by her beloved children, Sharon Fulks, Stephen (Alice) Hylton, Doug (Robin) Hylton, & Sandy Letscher; half brother, Richard (Kathy) Kreinbring; half sister, Zelma (Don) Ziegenhorn; five grandchildren, Ian (Cathy) Fulks, Corena (Benjamin) McClish, Misty (Clint) Meek, Amber(Jeremy) Goodwin, & Crystal (Benjiman) Miller; and nine great grandchildren.
JoAnn was very dedicated to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had many friends who were like family to her. She was known for being a mentor to her brothers and sisters in the Kingdom Hall. She was a selfless volunteer to the community and passionate supporter to her family, always making sure no one went without. She was a person of faith and lived a life serving others.
She graduated from North Kansas City High School with honors. She was raised during the Great Depression where her family ran a boarding house, her family cooked and cared for travelers passing through.
Aside from a short stent in Fairbanks, Alaska with her military husband, JoAnn built her life in Kansas City. She contributed to her household by utilizing her many skills such as babysitting, typing, and ironing in order to earn money.
She was the epitome of a homemaker. She always had a kid on her hip. She was often found standing at the kitchen window, washing dishes and watching her hummingbirds. She was an incredible baker, known for her beautiful and delicious cakes made with her signature homemade icing. She loved to sit outside on her porch in the warm sun, enjoying nature and her many potted flowers.
The legacy of JoAnn's kind spirit, generosity and determination to persevere will live on throughout the many lives she touched. She went by many names: mother, mom, grandma, gram, granny Jo, great grandma, sis, and friend. No matter your relationship to JoAnn, you were treated as family. She will be greatly missed.
