James was born on December 1, 1940 in Collins, Missouri to Derhl and Marjorie (Lipe) Chaney.
James was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy from 1958 until 1964 serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Hancock as an Air Traffic Controller. He retired from Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, Missouri after a 31 year career. He was skilled in carpentry and was a mechanic, but loved to fish, hunt, golf, and was a gardener growing all sorts of vegetables. James attended Park Hill Baptist Church in Parkville, Missouri.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Garry Chaney, Max Chaney, Dannie Chaney; his sister, Derletta (Chaney) Martin; his sister-in-law, Sue (Curtis) Sharp; brother-in-law, Anthony Curtis; and his son, Reese Chaney.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Billie (Curtis) Chaney; son, Anthony (Jennifer) Chaney and their family; his brother, Lennie (Christine Orr) Chaney; his sisters, Janey (Doyle) Finehardt and Ann Chaney; grandchildren, Ashley (Chaney) Persell and Austin Chaney; their mother, Michelle Chaney; great grand-children, Bristol Hardin and Liliana Persell; sister-in-laws, Ann (David) Linnell and Donna (Ronnie) Cox;
Memorial Services will be Tuesday July 20, 2021 at 2 PM; Park Hill Baptist Church with a visitation at 1 PM at the church. James will be inurned in Hermitage Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Cameron VA Employee Activity Fund (1111 Euclid St Cameron, Missouri 64429)
