Irene was born on July 26, 1959, the fifth of seven children, to Jesse and Conception “Connie” Montoya. She grew up on the West Side of Kansas City. This is where she met the love of her life, Isaac Aguilar. They grew up down the street from each other and later became high school sweethearts.
Isaac and Irene married on August 8, 1981 and began their little family in 1983. They had 4 children: Ariel, Rodnina, Julian and Sylvain. Irene devoted her entire life to God, being a wife, a loving mother and later a grandmother.
In 1994, Irene began a career with the North Kansas City School District. She spent 25 years serving the families and community of Winnwood Elementary. Her children were not only able to see her at home, but also at school.
Irene’s love didn’t stop with just her family. She loved and took pride in her work. Her heart was so big that it extended to everyone she served. She could tell you the names and stories of all the children and their families during the course of her 25+ years. She was truly a mother to all.
In 2016, Irene’s dream of being a grandmother came true. Irene was blessed with three grandchildren: Asa, Ariella and Francesca and with open and loving arms welcome and accepted three more: Skyler, Vincent and Victoria. Irene’s greatest joy in life was not only being a wife and a mother, but being a grandmother. She was truly an angel on earth and earned her wings long before she ever reached heaven.
She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Conception “Connie” Montoya; and her tia Mickey.
Irene is survived by her husband Isaac; children: Ariel (Alyssa), Rodnina (Dustin), Julian (Annie) and Sylvain; grandchildren: Asa, Ariella, Francesca, Skyler, Vincent and Victoria; and everyone who’s life she touched along the way.
The world will not be the same without her, but her legacy will continue on for many generations.
In lieu of flowers, to continue Irene’s legacy of commitment to the students at Winnwood Elementary her family has established a memorial fund in her honor. Donated funds will be used to support students in all the ways Irene would have done. No matter if it was a pair of shoes or buying a snack for a hungry child, Irene would always be there to care for Winnwood students. Always with love and a friendly smile. She gave us the very best of herself.
