Just three days after suffering a brain hemorrhage and 16 days before his 83rd birthday. Gordon graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Mo. in 1960. He attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo. and served in the army in Korea after training at Fort Leonard Wood. Gordon served proudly as a police officer at the Kansas City International Airport for 30 years from 1973 until 2003. He also served as a police officer at the Metropolitan Community College Maple Woods campus, retiring from there in 2011. Gordon married Mary Patterson Abel, owner of and teacher at the Merry Moments preschool, in 1982. Gordon and Mary have lived the past few years at Tiffany Springs Senior Living and for many years before that in Hills of Walden. Gordon was a kind man, who gave blood on a regular basis, loved his dogs (Corgis in recent years), and enjoyed his family. Besides his wife, he leaves two sisters, Elinor H. Stillman of Chevy Chase, Md, and Jane Hadley (Randy Robinson) of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Fred Hadley (Maxine) of Bloomington, Ind.; three step-sons, Michael (Terri) Abel, of Kansas City, Mo., David Abel, of Kansas City, Mo., and Pat Abel of Pleasant Valley, Mo.; eight grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 at the White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be a 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m. The family suggests donations to a blood donation nonprofit or to a dog rescue or shelter organization.
