Freda Bonnell (Walker) Hobson departed this life, January 26, 2023 after a long, fulfilling life in the Kansas City area. She was born September 29, 1920, in Kansas City, Mo, to Emma Freda (Renner) Walker and Lake Maupin Walker. She was the third child of their union and a sibling to brother, William Newton; sister, Dorothy Catherine; and youngest brother, Richard Lee. She was a graduate of Paseo High School class of 1937. During WWII, she met the love of her life, Paul R. Hobson; they wed on December 21, 1945. Together they moved to and made their home in Kansas City North in October 1949.
Freda was the mother of a daughter, Paula J. (Homer) Jackson of Kearney, MO; and of two step-sons, Brian C. (Patricia) Hobson of Gladstone, MO, and Gary S. (Vicki) Hobson of Glencoe, MO. She was a family matriarch to 7 grandchildren; Traci (Michael) Williams, Trisha Hobson, David (Dawn) Jay, Jennifer (David) Vrablic, Carla Appleberry, Amanda (Billy) Teegarden, and TaMara (Todd) Pelkey, 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her family members, she had countless brothers and sisters through Christ.
Her career included Accounting Clerk for a catalog company and an ammunition plant, Purchasing Agent for a national bakery, Secretary and Bookkeeper in the garment industry, and Administrative Assistant in the banking industry. She retired from United Missouri Bank, Trust Department in 1975.
Freda was an example of the love of our Lord and Savior through her countless actions, words and deed; she was always seeking ways to help and encourage others. She was an active member of Northgate Baptist Church, Young at Heart, and Northland Women’s Ministries. She served as Secretary to her Sunday school class and as a Librarian at the church.
Freda is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, step-sons, step daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and great-grandson. She departs this life without fear or regrets as she joins her beloved husband, family members and our Lord and Savior in eternity.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Freda’s name to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care located at 9001 State Line Rd Ste. 300, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 4th from 11am until 1pm with Funeral Service to follow at 1pm, at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 6600 NE Antioch Rd. Gladstone, MO 64119. Interment at Mt. Moriah South, location 10507 Holmes Rd. Kansas City, MO 64131 immediately following services.
