She was a resident of Clay County on and off her entire life. She passed away of natural causes the morning of July 2nd, 2022, at her residence in Kansas City, Missouri. Jean was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her hospitality was well known, bringing family and friends together in times of need and life’s celebrations. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Liberty.
Jean was born in Avondale, Missouri on October 15th, 1928, to Haden and Ocie Green (Baker). She graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1946. As a young woman she worked at Trans World Airlines and in her later years for the Clay County Public Administrator. She married Edwin L Elliott in 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church of North Kansas City and they enjoyed 50 years together. She lived in Michigan, Ohio, and California before retiring with Ed to Liberty, Missouri in 1981.
Jean was always involved in volunteer work, running a restaurant for Children's Home Society in California. She was active in historical, civic, and church groups over the years, including serving on the board of the Clay County Developmental Disabilities Resources Board (DDRB).
Jean enjoyed collecting antiques and cookbooks, especially dishes! She loved to go to auctions and family gatherings. She was the quintessential hostess to family and friends for any gathering.
Jean is survived by her sister, Florence Elaine (Richard) Sutton of Kirkland, WA; brother-in-law Ernest Eugene Elliott of Ohio, sister-in-law Mary Elliott of Liberty; children, Stephen Elliott (Heather George) of Kansas City, MO; John (Kirara) Elliott of Overland Park, KS; Rebekah Elliott (Christopher Jordan) of Corvallis, OR; grandchildren, Matthew (Stephanie), Samuel (Laura), Miranda (Jimmy), Aaron (Jamie), Sean, Joshua (Samantha), Seth, and Samuel Jordan; great–grandchildren, Annabel, Emma, Phoebe, Edward, Brayden, Beckham, Madison; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends, including Mitt her cat, her “best friend!”
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Haden (1980) and Ocie Green(2005); husband, Edwin Elliott (1998); brother, Earl (1927) and sister Edna (1930).
Jean enjoyed a full life of family and friends. The family requests those wishing to honor her make donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Liberty or favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
