EMMETT “BILL” WILLIAMS SHOUR went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 12, 2015 at Lake Waukomis, Mo. He was 80. He was born on February 19, 1935, in Kansas City, Ks., to Buel and Georgia Shour. In 1953, while still in high school, he joined the United States Naval Reserve. He served on several battleships as Chief Petty Officer until his Honorable Discharge in 1961. After graduating from Northeast High School in 1953, he began his career with Kansas City Power & Light, where he worked in the Transmission & Distribution Department and retired in 1994 as Superintendent of Budgets and Finance. In 1954, Bill married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Elna Leslie. Together they raised four children in the Kansas City Northland. Bill was a Deacon and Elder for many years at Northeast Presbyterian Church and later served as a Deacon at Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He worked as a volunteer in the office at the church in his retirement years where he was a very valuable asset and made many friends he cared deeply about. He was an avid and accomplished hunter and fisherman, even earning the title, “Mr. Crappie”. He served on the Lake Waukomis Association Board for many years where he was in charge of conservation. In 1999, he was given the Lake Waukomis ‘Citizen of the Year’ Award. Bill is survived by his daughter Virginia (Ginny) Gudmundsson (Skuli) and sons Bill (Donna), Matthew (Lynda) and Richard (Christine), nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elna, and sister, Caroline Sanstra. He was a very loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather will be missed so dearly by all his family and many friends. Services will be held at Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church 8029 N. Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, Missouri with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Contributions may be made in his name to the Gashland Evangelical Presbyterian Church memorial fund.
