Deborah was born on October 21, 1955, at St. Mary’s Hospital, in Kansas City to parents Peter A. Ruben and Pauline Ruben. Deborah grew up in North Kansas City, and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1973. Deborah remained in the northland throughout her life. She met her husband, Larry, in 1979. They were married, bought their home together, and had their first daughter, Ashley in 1984. Their second daughter, Lindsey, was born in 1989. Deborah loved children and she spoiled her two daughters, as well as her grandson. Her grandson Aaron was the light of her life, and he loved staying the night with his “MeMa”. Early, in her adult life, Debbie loved playing pool, and was in bowling leagues at NKC Pro Bowl. Debbie was also an excellent cook, and she welcomed her children to help in the kitchen, to learn the family recipes.
Deborah is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Pauline Ruben, brother, James Lee Roulston, sister, Patty Goodman and husband Jack, and grandson Hayden Michael Hammes.
Deborah is survived by her husband, Larry Joe Hammes, of Kansas City, Missouri, children Ashley Prusia (TJ Sigler) of Kansas City, Kansas, Lindsey Hammes (William Farrell), of Kansas City, Missouri, grandson Aaron Prusia, and Sister Marilyn Cerra (Fred) or Kansas City, Missouri.
The family would like to thank Deborah’s primary care physician Dr. Michael DiBernardo, for taking care of her through all of her illnesses the past 15 years, and to the staff at RAI Dialysis Care Center (Fresenius), in Kansas City, Kansas. Deborah did not like dialysis and it was somewhat painful to her, but she endured it, so that she could be with her family, if only for a short while longer. Deborah was the heart and soul of her family and she will be forever missed. Her love for her family will carry them through, until they can be reunited with her in Heaven.
