
Dean Pierce, 95, of Gladstone, passed away November 4, 2016. He was born in Barnard, KS on March 31, 1921. Dean was a proud Army Veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War. On July 31, 1950, he married the love of his life, Joan Stack, of Salina, KS. Together, they were blessed with 10 children. The family recently celebrated their 66th anniversary. Dean worked for Robin Hood Milling Company in Salina, KS, ConAgra Milling in Abilene, KS and ADM Milling in Kansas City. He also worked for the North Kansas City School District as head custodian before retiring. He was a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Dean loved telling stories of his military service and was able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He enjoyed singing various tunes and church hymns. He volunteered for several years at the Clay County Clothes Closet. His favorite hobby was gardening, putting out a large garden every year. Dean was an excellent cook and known for his home-fried chicken, sausage gravy, and soups made from garden vegetables. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters and one granddaughter, Tracy Stephens. He is survived by his wife, Joan, along with his ten children, Larry Pierce of Phoenix, AZ; Diana Sloderbeck of Kansas City, Steve Pierce (Kelsee) of Kansas City, Don Pierce of Las Vegas, NV; Elaina Stephens (Keith) of Kansas City, Randy Pierce of Kansas City, Brian Pierce of Kansas City, Marty Pierce of Baltimore, MD; Dan Pierce (Monica) of Kansas City; and Sharla Scott (Jim) of Fayetteville, AR.; along with 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his sister, Melva Rector of Abilene, KS. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Monday, November 7, 2016 at White Chapel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at St Gabriel’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Honor Flight KC.
