Charlis was born on November 16, 1937 in Girard, Kansas to Benjamin and Nellie Humphreys. She graduated from Girard High School in 1955. Charlis met Edward while he was attending college in Pittsburg, Kansas. She married Ed in December of 1957. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1958, Ed began working in Finance and Accounting at Hallmark Cards.
Charlis and Ed welcomed their first child, Lauren Kathleen on September 6, 1960. Their second child, Jess Paul, was born March 19, 1964. Charlis loved shopping, reading, traveling and most importantly, spending time with family and putting into place holiday traditions that are celebrated and passed down through all the family.
Charlis was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Nellie Humphreys. She is survived by her husband, Ed; daughter, Lauren; and son, Jess. Charlis and Ed have 8 beautiful grandchildren, Emily Lauren Peterson, Rachel Marie Grimes, Hannah Michelle Williams, Derrick Owen Churchman, Jacob Benjamin Kerr, Caleb Paul Kerr, Jessica Marie Kerr and Luke Michael Kerr. They also have 7 great grandchildren, Ellie Jo, Asher Edward, Abram Brian and Ayden Joseph Peterson, Callie Marie Grimes, and Kamryn Lee and Kyrie Anthony Williams.
Charlis was very passionate about animal rescue and no kill animal shelters. She supported local animal shelters in the Kansas City area.

A visitation will be held Monday, September 6, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 6:40 PM at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd., Kansas City, MO 64119. A rosary service will occur from 6:40 PM to 7:00 PM, following visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at 9:30 AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6415 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO 64119.
Serving as pallbearers are Caleb Kerr, Luke Kerr, Jess Kerr, Dean Pursel, Robb Long, Andy Peterson, Billy Brewer and Bryston Williams.
