Charlie was born on August 4, 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to James and Hazel (Powell) Lewis. He attended Ruskin High School then went on to serve his country for 6 years with the United States Army. In March of 1977 he joined the Kansas City Police Department and throughout his career he received multiple awards for selfless acts of heroism. Those awards included 2 Commendations, a Distinguished Service Medal and a Silver Award of Valor which was presented to him by KMBC Channel 9 News. He retired in April of 2002 with over 25 years in uniform. Upon retirement as an active duty police officer he continued on to serve 15 additional years as a civilian for the KCMO Police Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bonnie (Richardson) Thomsen of Gladstone, MO; brothers Donald Richardson of Eudora, KS, and James Lewis of Stockton, MO.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 52 years Patricia (Young) Lewis; daughters Sherri Lynn Lewis and Michelle Renee Lewis both of Kansas City, MO; sons Shane Charles Pendleton of Smithville, MO and Jesse Cole Pendleton of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren Corey Castellano, Tyler Garcia-Lewis, Levi Pendleton, Lana Pendleton, Natalie Pendleton and Waylon Pendleton; two great-grandchildren Mackenzie Castellano and Carter Castellano.
The family would like to thank the staff at Crossroads Hospice for the care provided in his final days.
