He was born October 11, 1927 at Carver, MO in Camden County. He was the son of the late Carl Carver and Bessie Mae (Croy) Carver, devoted husband of 57 years to Josephine L. (Renner) Carver, and brother to Hazel F. O’Dell. He sadly leaves two daughters, Regina M. Taylor of Kansas City, MO and Carletta D. Carver of Gladstone, MO, one grandson, Jason Carl Taylor-Ohmes of Kansas City, MO, and one nephew, Gary O’Dell of Gladstone, MO.
Mr. Carver was a switchman for the Union Pacific Rail Road for 40 years, from which he retired in 1988. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Union Pacific Old Timers Club.
He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and an Army Veteran of the Korean War.
Carl and his wife, Jo, were adventurous, traveling to 49 states and 7 countries. They looked forward to camping out in the Wyoming Big Horn Mountains 21 years every July and August from his retirement in 1988 through 2009. Dee, Gina, and Jason had the pleasure of camping out with them the first week of August for 10 of those years before JoJo passed. He taught Jason how to pull those logs out of the woods, chop logs for the fire, and clean the trout. Papa knew how to build some great fires that we enjoyed every morning with coffee and evening marshmallows. Carl’s passion was turkey, deer, and elk hunting, killing his last elk in Colorado at the age of 73.
