Barry Edward Hogge, 71, passed away unexpectedly on January 31, 2024. Barry was born on January 4, 1953 in Topeka, Kansas to Elsie and Frank Hogge. Barry graduated from North Kansas High School in 1971.
On May 6, 1978 he was united in marriage with Leta Galloway. The couple had two children and both worked long hours and difficult jobs to provide for the family. His children remember him as a kind, patient father who supported them unfailingly. Barry was accomplished at photography, mathematics and computer technology and enjoyed assembling LEGO sets at every opportunity. He was a generous person who loved a good beer, an outrageous comedy and was always ready to help anyone in need in whatever way he could. He was a master of the well-timed wisecrack.
Barry began working at Cook Paint in the retail store in 1971. He retired 27 years later, having been in floor covering, warehousing, tinting and resin production. After leaving Cook’s he worked at Best Buy in inventory and Metro Park Warehouses as a forklift driver. He retired in 2017.
He is preceded in death by his father Frank, his mother Elsie and his dear childhood friend, Michael Leonard. Barry is survived by his wife Leta, son and daughter-in-law, Sean and MaryBeth Hogge, granddaughter Lorelei, son Nick Hogge, all of Kansas City. He is also survived by three sisters, Vicki Hogge of Kansas City, Nancy Hogge of Greenfield, CA, and Jeanne Thompson of Portland, OR, nieces Teresa Bodle and Michelle Hoitenga both of Kansas City and nephew Dylan Thompson of Portland, OR, niece Angela Hollingsworth of Kansas City, MO, great nieces Mariem and Sarah Towakali of Kansas City, MO and his friend of over 60 years, Larry King of Kansas City. He will also be missed by many relatives and friends.
Services are scheduled for Sunday, February 18th at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home. Visitation at 1 pm, service at 2:30 pm with a reception to follow on site. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Barry’s life.
