Abbi Raine Schaeffer, 22, of Kansas City, MO, became a missing person in May of 2022. She passed away soon after. Abbi’s family and friends spent most of the following year awaiting word from the police with ever dwindling hope of her return. In April 2023, her remains were found. An exact cause of death is still undetermined.
Abbi was a fun-spirited soul. She was confident, yet sensitive, and had a strong sense of fairness and justice. She was compassionate and generous to a fault, giving her last dollar to a friend or family member. She was also strong-willed, stubborn on occasion, and passionate about what was important to her. These traits undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges growing up and were a source of strength and inspiration to her siblings. She had a sharp wit and was fun to be around. Her smile lit up the room.
Abbi enjoyed spending time outdoors. She loved camping, visiting the beach, swimming, float trips, attending bonfires, and hiking. She also enjoyed gardening, and planting flowers.
Abbi had other outlets for her creativity. She was an amazing improv chef, with no two meals alike and all of them delicious. She collected clothing and makeup, but also elephants. She was a creative artist, which resulted in some memorable gifts on Father’s Day. She loved to go antiquing with her mom. She was captivated with graffiti; she had to stop whenever she saw a piece and get photographed with it, even on vacations to other cities. Abbi enjoyed many types of music, as long as it wasn’t Country music.
She loved spicy food; whether it was Takis from the gas station, Mexican candy (sweet or spicy), or street tacos from her frequent taco runs to South Kansas City with friends or family.
Abbi loved animals. She had several cats and dogs through her life, each with their quirks and traumas. She was especially close to her last cat, Izzy; She frequently carried Izzy in a handbag when she ran errands or went on a QT or Taco Bell run. Izzy and Abbi were kindred spirits, each found friends and family everywhere they went.
Abbi had a special love for all her siblings, from the oldest (now 24) to the youngest (now 7), and she looked for chances to make each of them feel special. She tried to spend time with them whenever she could and kept in contact when she couldn’t. When she was away for long, she returned bearing gifts, candy, Takis, and hugs.
Abbi was a beautiful person inside and out. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed. Until we meet again.
Abbi is survived by her mother and father: Belinda and Jason Schaeffer; her siblings: Michael, Joel, Livia, and Savannah Schaeffer; Audrey Davis; Nadine, Ashlyn, and Christopher Beaman; her grandparents: Mark and Sheryl Schaeffer; and JoAnn and Steve Medlin; her great-grandmother: Diana Henry. She is also survived by Christopher D’Avis and Jennifer Goodner; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
