He is predeceased by his five siblings; Cecil and Willie Butler, Laura Marsden-Harpell, Marjory Wadden, and Gertie Thompson. Wilson was loved and will be missed by many family members and close friends, his extended Flynn family, in-laws, and relatives from Newfoundland. Wilson worked as a Maintenance Technician at the ‘old’ General Hospital in Glace Bay for over 20 years. He was a skilled carpenter and pursued his passion for woodworking after his retirement making several pieces of beautiful furniture for family and friends. Wilson was a proud veteran of the Canadian Army serving as a Paratrooper with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. In his downtime, he enjoyed gardening as well as hunting and fishing, especially with his late friend, Nelson Buchanan. Wilson also loved competing on the Donkin Legion Mixed Dart Team where he was awarded the Gus MacLeod Memorial Sportsman Award. This year marked Wilson’s 50-year milestone as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5. Throughout his years of dedicated service, Wilson helped with many campaigns, Legion events, and provided the organization with a variety of handcrafted wooden signs that still get used and cherished today. When Wilson was in good health, he was an active member of his community helping out with The Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. At Wilson’s request, cremation has taken place and a service will be held at 2pm at St. Lukes United Church in Donkin.
