Glace Bay
On May 6, 2024 with her family by her side at the Glace Bay Hospital, Heaven welcomed with open arms, Venie MacKinnon. At the age of 97, God felt it was time for her to share her wisdom, loving ways and musical abilities with all those who had gone before.
On October 30, 1926 Venie was born in Glace Bay to loving, now deceased, parents, James and Lily Crewe.
She brought much joy and happiness to her family, spending much time with them.
Venie was employed with RBC and the Sterling Mall Card Shop but her favourite "job" was that of a seamstress making beautiful wedding dresses, gowns and altering anything that needed altering.
Sunday morning always saw Venie in her seat in the Epworth United Church choir loft. For 60 years she carried the alto notes as if she was practicing for the day she would sing in Heaven.
At Epworth Church, Venie was a member of the UCW and contributed to any church function with her delicious baking.
Everyday she enjoyed baking, reading, jigsaw puzzles, word finds and for 13 years participated in aerobic classes at Perry's Gym. But the biggest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
Left to mourn their loss and remember her life are her daughters Carol Ann Williams, Linda Mahoney and Judy Lively and her son, Kevin (Margie) Edwards.
Step-children include Ann Ross, Joy Reed, Glenda MacKinnon, Breton MacKinnon and Lauchie MacKinnon.
Venie was blessed to have 7 grandchildren: Bradley, Peter, Brenda, Kevin, Annette, Todd and Christopher and 7 great grandchildren: Josie, Tanner, Madison, Aiden, Makaio, Lucy Rae and Michael.
Besides her parents, Venie was predeceased by her first husband Arthur Edwards, second husband Clarence MacKinnon, sister Rosella and brother Alex.
Visitation will take place Friday, May 10, 2024 from 1-2 pm at Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay , service will follow at 2 pm in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating.
Family flowers only, donations in her memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
