It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jerry Green on June 7th, 2023, at Seaview Manor. Jerry lived a full and meaningful life reaching the age of 97. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandparent, great grandparent, brother, and friend.
Jerry was a respected resident of Schooner Pond and well known in Donkin and Morien. In 1946, he married Florence MacDonald and in their 69 years that followed their relationship was the embodiment of true love. Together they raised a family of eight children and their extended family grew to include 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jerry was proud of all of them and they dearly loved their Poppy.
By all accounts Jerry was a hard worker. He was a master carpenter, had a passion for commercial fishing and a “green” thumb for gardening. He excelled in whatever he put his hand to. He led on the construction of many residential and commercial builds. He fished from Port Morien for lobster and other fish species for many decades. He grew beautiful gardens of various fruits and vegetables and called it a “labour of love”. At harvest time, he shared it all with family and friends. For the betterment of his church or a community project he would readily lend a helping hand. He was a man of great faith and lived by those same values.
Jerry loved all sports, especially hockey, and was a devout fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. For many years Jerry and Florence held season tickets to the Cape Breton Oilers and Screaming Eagles where they met many friends. They also loved to travel and enjoyed bus tours to the USA.
Jerry is survived by daughters Catherine Phalen (Syl), Beverly Vatcher (Bruce), Marlene Morrison (Leif), Sheila McKinnon (MJ) and Lorelei Dillon, and sons Kevin Green (Donna) and Keith Green (Karen).
Jerry was predeceased by his wife Florence and son Donald Green, brothers Edward Green, Jefferson Green, and Thomas Miller, and sisters Margaret MacLeod and Mary Jane Green.
The family would like to thank Dr. Elleker and Dr. Asim and especially the staff of Seaview Manor who provided such good care the past two years. Jerry was, and we his family, are ever so grateful for your service and compassion.
