It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jerome "Jerry" William Vokey 73 of Glace Bay, N.S. on September 27, 2021, with loving family by his side. Born in Glace Bay on June 29, 1948, Jerry was the son of the late John and Noreen (Evans) Vokey. Jerry spent many years working as an industrial mechanic/ welder for DEVCO Coal Company and Sydney Steel. He was involved in sports throughout his life including hockey, baseball, darts, basketball, and golf. He also was a music fan who enjoyed learning to play piano and guitar.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife Norma "Alice" (MacQueen) Vokey with whom he was married to for 44 years, brothers John Vokey, Reggie Vokey, and sister Pearl (Sheldon) Gallant. He is survived by brothers Robert (Emmaline) Vokey, and Trevor Vokey, sisters Sherrill (Fred Hill), Janice (Nelson Santos), Marlene (Steven Shepherd), sister-in-law Penny Vokey, daughter Nadine (Adrien Lavoie), son Jared Vokey (Danielle), grandchildren Maggie Lavoie, Audrey Lavoie, John Lavoie, Peyton Vokey, and Jake Vokey; sisters and brothers in-law; an aunt, an uncle, many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and close friends.
At Jerry's request cremation has taken place. A small private service will take place. Those wishing may attend virtually by viewing the livestream hosted on Patten’s Facebook Page starting at 10:30am on Friday, Oct. 1st. Interment will take place in Chalmer’s Cemetery, Dominion.
