It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, Ian Harris “Hopper” MacLeod, which occurred Monday, August 09, 2010, at the QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax Infirmary, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay on May 07, 1937, he was a son of the late John A. and Mary Elizabeth (Hardy) MacLeod. He was a life-long resident of Lake Road.
Hopper is survived by sons Bill (Joanne), Truro; Robert (Tanya), Sydney River; Shaun (Betty), Prince Edward Island; his very special grandchildren Samantha, Nichole, Brianna and Alex. He is also survived by sister Norma Brandhagen, USA; brothers Charlie (Betty) and Allister (Roberta), Ontario and his ever faithful dog Shadow. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife and soul mate of 45 years, Annie (Hawryluk) MacLeod; brother Dennis.
In earlier years, Hopper was the manager and mechanic at Plaza Gas and Marine, Sydney River and later was employed at the Glace Bay Heavy Water Plant. He was an avid hockey fan and was a member of the Old Timers Hockey League, Glace Bay. Hopper enjoyed doing odd jobs and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Visitation for the late Hopper MacLeod will be held in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay on Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held Friday at 2pm in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Shirley Murdock officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Nova Scotia Division.
The family would like to express their thanks to very special friends Adrian and Jocelyn Lee, Turk and Shirley Stewart and Bernie O’Neil for their comfort, love and support both before and during Hopper’s illness. We are forever in debt to you.
