Our hearts are filled with sadness as we announce the sudden and unexpected death of our uncle Sonny Murphy of Port Morien. Sonny passed away at Taigh Na Mara on January 3, 2018, he was the son of the late William and Catherine (Morrison) Murphy.
Sonny was a fisherman most of his life and also worked in construction. Sonny was an avid hockey player. During his early years he played with the Morien Aces and later with the Wolfville Falcons. In 1981 Sonny was presented with an award of recognition by the Nova Scotia Hockey Association for his contribution to Amateur Hockey in Nova Scotia.
Sonny is survived by his sister-in-law Kathleen Murphy, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Sonny was predeceased by siblings, brothers James, Courtney, Byron, Donnie, Robert and William; and sisters Lima, Alice, Iris and Jean.
Visitation for Sonny will be at Patten Funeral Home in Glace Bay on Monday, January 8 from 6 - 9pm with cremation to follow. Funeral will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 22 am in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien with the Rev. Marian Lucas-Jefferies officiating.
