Glen is survived by his sister Catherine Shea, Glace Bay, sisters-in-law Margie Roach and Carrie Roach, Glace Bay and Kathryn Dickson, Truro. Glen is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John Roach and Annie (MacInnis) Roach, sisters Annie Stacia and Catherine Elizabeth in childhood; brothers John, Duncan, William, Daniel and Charles; and sister Laurie Wilson; niece, Lorna Bowers and nephew, Carter Hudson.
Glen was born, raised and resided in Glace Bay his entire life. He was employed with DEVCO working in the lab and various mine facilities. He retired as Supervisor of Coal Yards.
Glen was a lifelong member of Warden United Church, serving as an Elder, Choir Member and on various church committees. He was a member of IOOF Aberdeen Lodge #68 Glace Bay. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Glace Bay General Hospital and was a member of the Glace Bay Hospital Foundation.
Glen participated in various sports, including softball in his youth and bowling in later years. He was an avid walker. Glen enjoyed playing the piano, especially at family gatherings Glen loved to travel with Jean on bus tours throughout Canada and the United States. Many happy summers were spent with Jean at their cottage in Mira.
Visitation will take place Thursday August 8, 2019 from 6pm-9pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held at Warden United Church, Glace Bay Friday August 9, 2019 at 2pm, with Rev. Alison Etter and Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Reception will immediately follow the funeral service. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay, following the reception.
