Florence Christene ‘Sis’ Smith (née Morrison), 94, of Glace Bay passed away peacefully Aug. 24, 2012, at Seaview Manor with family by her side.

Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William Henry, her birth mother Sarah Jane MacAulay, and her “mom” Charlotte.

Florence was an avid member of Knox United Church and the UCW. She was an avid bowler who lived a simple life devoted to her family and friends. To Sis there was nothing like a good game of scat and a cup of tea.

Surviving are daughters, Jennifer (Brian) Wagner, Orillia, Ont., Roberta (Bill) Colwill, Fergus, Ont.; son, Bill (Colette), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Lisa (Don)Dumas, Amy Wagner, Sarah (Matt) Caven, Jonathan and Chrissy Smith and Jessica (Brad) Holland; great-grandchildren, Bevyn Dumas, Halyn Dumas and Zander Weatherhead. She is also survived by Roberta’s stepchildren, Matthew, Becky and Cayla, and their children, Hannah, Spencer and Breanna. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sis was predeceased by her husband, Erwin ‘Shadow’ Smith, daughter, Anne Patricia, brothers, Aulay, Frank, Charlie and Jimmy, and her sister, Billie.

Visitation for the late Florence Christene Smith will be held Tuesday, Aug. 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 at Knox United Church with Rev. John Finlayson officiating, assisted by Rev. Duncan Roach. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date following cremation.
