Amour graduated from the Victoria General School of Nursing in 1972. She dedicated her career to making the lives of those she cared for more comfortable. She brought a patient, gentle, positive, and compassionate attitude to her practice and could always manage to make her patients smile. She began her nursing career at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax in the burn unit. Amour returned to Glace Bay to start a family and worked in the Glace Bay General Hospital on the Veterans wing. Amour them spent the remainder of her career at Taigh Na Mara Long term Care facility and retired in 2006. She kept in touch with her colleagues and classmates over the years and, in 2022, she helped to organize a 50 year class reunion.
Amour was never one to boast about herself, but she was very proud of her children. She was present for every game, performance, or important event. She would be in the front row cheering them on. She was the involved parent that every coach wanted when it came to fundraising and volunteering. She always found a way to help whether it was selling chocolate bars, running the canteen or driving the team around.
Amour was a woman of strong faith. She was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star Queen Elizabeth Chapter #14 holding various offices in her over 25 years of service. Most recently, she was appointed Grand Representative of New Jersey.
Amour was an active member of St Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Glace Bay. Affectionately known as a church mouse, she was always helping with whatever fundraisers were on the go by selling tickets and helping to plan events like concerts, dinners, breakfasts, and teas. She was a member of the board of managers, a longstanding alto in the choir, and the camp ambassador for Camp MacLeod for many years.
Amour was predeceased by her parents Robert MacLeod, Mary (MacLean) MacLeod and stepmother Dorothy (MacLeod) MacLeod; as well as multiple aunts and uncles.
Amour is survived by her children Daniel Gonneville (Bria), Edmonton; and Guylaine Ouellette (Cody), Truro; Brother Shane MacLeod, Glace Bay; Sister-in-law Patti Burton, Glace Bay; nieces Sarah MacLeod, Glace Bay; Bria (Nathan) Lapierre, Halifax. She is also survived by many cousins and friends.
