Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Frank and Emily (Hawkins) Payne. Agnes was a member of the former Epworth United Church.
Agnes is survived by 1 son, James (Lynn), daughters; Joan (Allan) MacKenzie, with whom she resided for the last 5 years, June (Tom) Bell, Thedfort, On., Florence Ralph, Glace Bay, grandchildren; Aleacia Bennett (Paul LeBlanc), Fredricton, N.B., Jade (Adam) Harrold, Beijing, China, Janet (J.R.) MacDonald, Darlene (Devon) Green, Athena (Matthew) Stevens, London,On., Crissy (Larry) Scurry, James Hofstra, On., Amanda (Shane)MacGillvray, MJ Brown and James Ralph, all of Glace Bay, sons in law; Jack Ralph and Jack Dodge, On. Also surviving are several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and sisters; Georgina MacDonald and Joyce Brown of Ontario.
Agnes was predeceased by her husband James C.N. in 1975, daughters; Emily Ralph in July, 2010 and Heather Dodge in 2003. She was also predeceased by sisters; Elsie Warr, Vera Griffin, Nel Laquement, Ethel Newell, Peg Boutilier, Christene Burrage and brothers; Bill, Fred and Lew Payne.
Mom will be forever missed for her great love of all children and animals.
Visitation for Agnes Bennett will be held on Monday, March 21,2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 pm in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Nancy Whitney- Latham officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Glace Bay General Hospital Palliative Care Unit or to a charity of choice.
