Born in Glace Bay, she was the youngest daughter of the late David and Phyllis Yates of Tower Road, Glace Bay. She and her husband Arthur Fabian (Shep) Doucette were together for 53 years and were long-time residents of both Glace Bay, and Cambridge, Ontario.
Abigail leaves behind to cherish her memory her six children, Mary, Gary, Denise, Jennifer, David, and Fabian. She is also survived by her many grand-children and great grand-children as well as sisters Lily Brock, Joyce Debison, Barbara Hart and brother, Edward Yates.
Her passion was home and family and she enjoyed nothing more than the sounds associated with a full kitchen and conversation. She possessed a warm and kind heart and was always willing to show compassion and offer a helping hand. She displayed courage, dignity and faith as she faced numerous health challenges in her life and is now finally called to rest.
In honouring Gail’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction and care of Patten Funeral Home. A memorial service for family and all friends will be held on Saturday, September 03, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 8 Marconi St. Glace Bay. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maple Street, Glace Bay. Family and friends are invited to a small reception following interment at the family home located at 2499 Tower Road.
