His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Gering with Rev Bethann Black officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors by F.E. Warren AFB Honor Guard and American Legion Post #36, Gering. Visitation will be an hour prior services on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Legacy of the Plains or First United Methodist Church in Gering. Ronald Lee Dutton was born on April 15, 1931, in Gering at home, to Waldo and Hazel (Ewing) Dutton.
He had his schooling in Gering, graduating in 1949. He attended 2 years at Scottsbluff Junior College. He enlisted in the USAF in May 1951. He was honorably discharged in May 1955. His Air Force years were spent in California, Texas, and Alaska. He married Mary Louise Lyle on August 14, 1955, in McMinnville, OR. He met her while stationed in Nome, Alaska.
He attended Linfield College in McMinnville for 2 years. He graduated in June 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Business. He also attended the Colorado Banking School in Boulder, CO.
He was over 75 years member of the First United Methodist Church in Gering, a former member of the Gering Lions Club, on the District and Council of Longs Peak Council and WYO Braska Boy Scouts. He worked with Scouts for 54 years. In Feb. 1980, he was awarded the Silver Beaver award in Scouting. He was a former Float Chairman and Treasurer of Oregon Trail Days. He was the Honorary President of the Old Settlers Organization in 2007. He was a former President of the Platte Valley Museum, now Legacy of the Plain and a volunteer for many years.
He worked at B & C Steel, Lockwood Corp, Gering National Bank, Regional West Medical Center and First United Methodist Church in Gering.
He is survived by his wife, sons Alan (Lola) of Troutdale, OR, Steven of Rapid City, SD and Robert (Jill) of Anchorage, AK, daughter Linda (Kyle) of Cheyenne, WY; brothers Harvey of Gering, Glenn of Dallas, TX and Roy of Lakewood, CO. He has 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Sandy Dutton of Texas, daughter-in-law Libby Dutton of Oregon, daughter-in-law Kayla Dutton of SD and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Barrow and Donna Morgan of Nome, AK.
