Roberta “Betty” (DeVore) Hubbard, 93, of Gering passed away May 6, 2021. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 12, from 3 pm to 6 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel, and the service will be at WestWay Christian Church, Thursday, May 13, at 10 am, officiated by Pastor Joe Peterson.
Betty was born to Lorna (Adams) and Marion Devore on April 7, 1928. She spent her early years in Bayard moving to Bridgeport when her father became the Sheriff of Morrill County. Betty graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1946.
After graduation, Betty wed Herschel Hubbard, with whom she spent the next 70+ years making a home and traveling. Betty and Herschel began farming in the Red Willow Community. Later moving to Gering, Betty was a homemaker and mother to their four children. She worked at Midwec, rising to supervisor. She then assisted in the Hubbard & Sons Trucking Company. They later became co-owners of Arby’s in Alliance which they ran for a number of years. They also owned the Cornhusker Roast concession at area events for many years. Faith was important to Betty and she made lifelong friends in the church. Finally retiring, they found great pleasure in socializing with their friends from Church and following their grandchildren's activities. Betty loved cooking and was well known for her homemade pies.
Betty was preceded in death by husband Herschel; sons, Russell and Clyde; her parents; all of her nine siblings; and one grandson.
Betty is survived by daughter, Linda (Robert) Kuzilik; son, Eldon (Candy) Hubbard; grandchildren, Shelly (Patrick) Perkins, Brian Keller, Leslie Hodge, Josh (Amanda) Anderson, Melissa (David) Ritner, Brittany (Ed) Whetham, Brady (Cady) Hubbard; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family respectfully requests that memorials in Betty’s honor be made in care of WestWay Christian Church or to the donor’s choice.
