Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25 at 10:00 am at the Gering United Methodist Church with Pastor Bethann Black officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Visitation will be Friday, January 24 from 4-6 pm at Gering Memorial Chapel. Audre Asselin was born on January 5, 1929 in Portland, Oregon to Henry S and Minnie (Schwindt) Burbach. Audre moved to Scottsbluff with her parents as a small child. She attended schools in Scottsbluff and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. Audre attended and graduated from Central Business School in Denver, Colorado.
Audre married Lew Asselin August 20, 1949 and to this union five children were born: Lon, Demaris, Janna, Kelly and Randy.
Audre worked at the Star-Herald, St. Mary’s Hospital laboratory and the State of Nebraska Services for the Visually Impaired.
She was a member of the Gering United Methodist Church for over 60 years.
Audre is survived by her children Lon Asselin, Demaris and James Berger, Janna and Randy Smith all of Gering, Kelly and GiGi Asselin of Kearney and Randy and Julee Asselin of Greeley, CO; sisters-in-law Pam Burback of Scottsbluff and Cathy Burbach of Chadron, NE.
Audre had 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Audre was preceded in death by her husband Lew Asselin in 1979, daughter-in-law Laura Asselin, sisters Donna McBride and Janice Harimon, brothers Richard Burbach and Bill Burback, grandsons Justin Asselin and Brady Smith, great granddaughter Syndee Brester and brothers-in-law Ed McBride and George Harimon.
