Robert Herman Williams, Jr. passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 89. Robert (Rob) is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joann Hartley Williams; son, Steve Williams; grandson, Justin Hanson (Tiffany); great grand children, Tristan and Rylie Hanson; brother, Charles Williams (Jo); his beloved nieces, nephews and special friends, Patricia Compton, Tom & Bobbie Gandy, Carrie Lee Norsworthy, and Wesley and Vesta Taylor. Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert H. and Mellonee Williams; sister, Juanita Adams; brothers, Frances M Williams, Earl H. Williams, and Ronnie Williams; and great grandson, Carter Hanson.
Born September 7, 1929, in Georgiana, Alabama, Rob was a gracious, fun-loving, and discerning southern gentleman whose life was characterized by his dedication to God, family, his country, and education. Rob left school at age 17 and joined the U.S. Navy. After one tour in the Navy, he returned home, finished high school and attended Troy University. Upon graduation in 1951, he taught school in the Mobile County School System for 30 years. After retirement, he returned home to Georgiana. As a loyal and faithful member of the Georgiana First Baptist Church, he loved God with all his heart and served in many ways including being a Deacon. Rob was an active member of the community and an early promoter of the annual Hank Williams Festival to include the Georgiana High School homecoming class reunions of the 30's, 40's, and 50's.
The family is grateful for the many years of kindness and care that Rob and the Williams Family have received from the staff of Georgiana hospital and Alacare Home Health and Hospice.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at The First Baptist Church, Georgiana, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at the church at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Future Building Fund at the First Baptist Church, Georgiana, Alabama.
