Born August 9, 1931 in Eden, Illinois to Alfred Thomas Manuel and Edith Pearl (Kimzey) Manuel, she married William Max Thomas on May 30, 1953 in Glasford, Illinois.
She is survived by one son, Karl Lewis Thomas of Georgetown, Texas; two granddaughters, Jennifer Rae Mashburn and Kelly Christine Mashburn; great-granddaughter, Morgan Alexis Kaspar (Kory); great-grandson, Grant Thomas Ladner; and precious great-great-granddaughter, Kenedi Raelyn Kaspar. She also leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Bill; son, Clark Wilding Thomas; brother, Eric Raymond Manuel; sister, Frances Caroline Manuel; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Murphy Thomas.
She grew up in Eden, Illinois and attended Farmington High School. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1971 until returning to Elmwood, Illinois in 2001. In 2014, she moved to Georgetown, Texas to be close to her son and family. For most of her working career, she was in medical office administration in both Farmington and Omaha.
Known as “GG Thomas” to her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter, her legacy will live on through them and the loving memories. Virginia had a life-long passion of knitting hundreds of stocking hats/scarves for the homeless and infant, cancer patients in each state she lived in.
Virginia will be missed dearly by her family and many friends from throughout her life, work and travels. Her kindness was matched only by her devotion to her husband and family, enjoying the companionship of close friends, and living a life of Christian faith.
Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be at a later date in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Farmington, Illinois next to her beloved husband of 50 years.
Memorials may be made to the Elmwood Historical Society, Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association or the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
