Sharon, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, committed servant of God, and loving sister, recently moved to Texas to be near her sons and grandchildren. Her father Henry Clay Callis and her mother Mildred M. Callis, both of Memphis, Tennessee, preceded Sharon in death. She is survived by her husband, Donald L. Parks, formerly from Derby, Kansas; son Nathan L. Parks of Austin, Texas; son David M. Parks and wife Tamara; grandchildren, Anderson and Scarlett of Pflugerville, Texas; and sister Myrna C. Smith, of Memphis, Tennessee.
Upon moving to Texas, Sharon quickly joined the New Life Baptist Church in Pflugerville. She was formerly a long-term member of Pleasantview Baptist Church in Derby, Kansas. She was also very active in the Gideons International, serving as the Kansas Association Auxiliary State Membership Coordinator. In addition to her love of God and family, Sharon loved the people around her. During her last days she gave New Testaments to virtually every nurse and doctor ministering to her. A retired music teacher from the Wichita KS Public School District, Sharon was a member of the Kansas Music Educators Association and the Kodaly Music Educators of Kansas.
The following was received from one of her friends… “A thank you for allowing me to have the privilege of being your colleague and friend. A thank you for showing so many kids a love to music. A thank you for trusting me with your students at your time of need. I can’t imagine how many students you have touched over the years. When things were tough, I saw how strong of faith you had in the Lord. You still managed to have a smile on your face.”
Visitation is at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Monday, September 24, 2012. Funeral services will be at New Life Baptist Church in Pflugerville, Texas, at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 25. Burial will follow the services Tuesday at 2:00 pm at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Sharon is missed greatly.
