Samuel Lee Miller was born on February 22, 1937 to the late Clarence Miller and Willie Mae (Sedwick) Miller. Samuel grew up in Georgetown, Texas. At a very early age he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He has lived a life serving God and others. Samuel joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for seven years. He fought in the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, Samuel moved to San Diego, California and then to Pomona, California, where he met his wonderful wife of 40 years, Annie Mae Miller. Together the two of them have lived a joyous life. They were inseparable. Samuel began working at Frantz Cleaners where he took on the position as Manager of the store. He was very dedicated to his work. Samuel worked at the cleaners for many years. He retired in 1997. The owners, Frank and Kay Richards, considered Samuel to be more of a family member rather than just an employee.
After retirement Samuel and Annie moved to Georgetown, Texas. Although retired, Samuel never stopped working. Arriving in Georgetown, TX in 1997, Samuel and Annie began volunteering at “The Caring Place” every Tuesday, where he volunteered for over 13 years. He served on the board and received a Volunteer Service Award in 2007. Annie worked on the inside while Samuel worked in the back. Samuel was a very loving and caring person; he befriended many senior citizens in the Georgetown community. He would care for their lawns as well as repairing any broken items in their homes. These individuals were already looking forward to seeing Samuel this spring.
Upon moving to Texas, Samuel and Annie immediately joined St. Helen Catholic Church where they became active members as church greeters. Samuel was also a member of the Rocky Hollow Cemetery Association where he served as treasurer for many years. In addition, he was a member of the VFW Association as well as a member of the American Legion. Samuel will be truly missed by all who knew him.
