Nancy was born May 2, 1938, in Monroe, Michigan, to mother Anastasia Karalewitz and father John Karalewitz. She married Jim Wallace in 1961. Together they adopted and raised two sons, Mark and Kevin. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy (Monroe, MI), Mercy College of Detroit (B.S. Sec Ed), and the University of Houston (M.S. Early Childhood Development).
Nancy had a deep love for life and many interests, but her passion was gardening. She was a founding member of the Durango (Colorado) Botanical Society and built and renovated major gardens in Durango and Georgetown as well as her own family gardens at home. She had a keen eye for botanical design and could often be found playing in the dirt, smiling from ear to ear, gently placing a cactus “just so” in a rocky crevice, and joyfully directing the placement of the next big boulder. Nancy also loved to travel and visited over 65 countries in her lifetime.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim Wallace; son Mark E. Wallace of Cedar Park and his partner Nicole Van Zile of Austin; son Kevin Wallace and his wife Lana Wallace of Amarillo, TX; her four granddaughters Kiara of Austin and her fiancé Khunal Parkash, Darcy of Cedar Park, Elizabeth and Erin of Amarillo, TX, and her grandson Joseph of Washington, MO.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and a Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral home located at 2900 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to your local community garden or botanical society, in memory of Nancy Jean Wallace.
