Michael Joseph Watkins went to be with our Heavenly Father on February 11, 2023. Mike was born in Colorado Springs, CO to Daniel Thomas Watkins & Sandra Lea Van Ausdall Watkins on February 27, 1974. The family relocated to Illinois when he was very young and resided in the Rock Island & the Quad Cities area of Illinois for most of his childhood, where his Aunt Shirley Miller became an instrumental & loving part of his life. His teen years were spent in Calallen, TX where he found his home with his Uncle John & Aunt Rena Watkins as well as with his bonus mom, Mary Smith. Mike lived most of his high school years with John and Rena Watkins, and their children considered him more like a brother than a cousin. As an adult he made his way to Austin, where he met and married the love of his life, Heather Henderson Watkins. They grew their roots in the Central Texas area since 2006 and raised their daughter Meghan in Round Rock before recently settling in Georgetown, TX.
Mike came from a long line of gearheads, equipping him to work in varied areas of the automotive industry throughout his life. Mike & Heather were the owners of LINE-X of Round Rock and MW2 Automotive (Mike and Meg Watkins squared). Mikes interests included anything automotive, rusty & old. If it had a motor he knew what it was, knew what to do with it, and could get it running again. He enjoyed sharing these interests with his family, often dragging his daughter Meg to car shows, tractor shows, and swap meets, even before she could walk. He could fix virtually anything and generously shared his skills with friends and family. Mike was a man of honor, a loving husband & loyal friend, a doting dad, a respected business owner and a cherished member of his tribe … blood or otherwise.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Daniel Thomas Watkins. The loved ones left to grieve his loss are: His wife Heather Henderson Watkins and his daughter Meghan Juliet Watkins - Bonus daughter & granddaughter Elizabeth Lard & Luna - Mother: Sandra Shano - Brother and Sister In Law: Scott Watkins (Dana) - Half Sibling: Angela Shano Posten - Bonus Mom: Mary Smith and Family – Uncle: John Watkins (Rena), Cousin-Siblings; Karri Bearden (Ben), Heather Bostwick (Tyler), John Thomas “JT” Watkins, and Danielle Stevens (Caleb) - Aunts: Shirley Miller, Darlene Pullen, Debbie Clover (Bob) and Bonnie Watkins - Father & Mother-in-Law: Lloyd and Theresa Henderson - Sisters and Brother-in-law: Lori Henderson, Angela Hadash (Chris) - Nephews and nieces: Nick Henderson, Dakota Jackson, Haylee Crowley (Cale) and Gracie Hadash - As well as numerous cousins & in-law family.
