Our sweet mother, Mary Contreras Torres, was born on March 24, 1936 in Caldwell County and peacefully passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 in Round Rock, Texas. She grew up in the Austin area and later lived in Leander, Texas and finally retired to Georgetown, Texas.
Mom was blessed with a large and loving family. In 1953 she married Theodore Torres and was married to him for 25 years until his passing in 1978. Soon after his death she completed cosmetology school and worked in that field for over 35 years. She was fondly known to her customers as Mary T and enjoyed all aspects of the business. In 1982 she married Tom Remley and they were married until his passing in June 2017. They enjoyed traveling, boating at the lake with family and going out for drinks and dancing. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing and crocheting. She made it a point to crochet blankets for family.
Mom was a loving, soft spoken, giving and kind person. She was non-judgmental and very welcoming to all people. She loved to cook meals and be with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved making tamales with her family. She strongly believed tamales were not just for the holiday season, but should be enjoyed throughout the year. We would call mom and tell her we’re coming over and she would ask, “do you want me to put some tamales on”? She will be greatly missed by her family.
Mom is survived by her grateful children: Theodore Torres (Amy), Irene Galvan (Ricky), Martina Lopez (Albert), Lupe Vasquez (Mike), Levienna Tisdale (Thomas) and stepson Mike Remley. Grandchildren: Tanya, Ted, Adam, Melissa, Danelle, Jason, Joey, Ryen, David Jr., Brittany, Brooke, Bailey and Katie.
Brothers: Johnny and VO. Sister: Josie. She also had 22 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Theodore Torres, Tom Remley and her son David Torres. She also greatly missed her sisters Georgia, Lupe and Gloria.
A special thank you to mom’s neighbors in Heritage Oaks. Her community always showed great kindness and support for each other throughout the years.
We also would like to thank Dr. Boone and the ICU nurses at Seton Williamson. The kindness and compassion you gave to our family during this difficult time was appreciated.
