Louise was born on June 10, 1921 in a Methodist parsonage in Garden City, Missouri. Her parents were Reverend Robert C. Edwards and Ruth Byars Edwards. The family served at Methodist churches in New Mexico and Texas throughout her childhood.
Louise graduated from Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas in 1943 with a Baccalaureate of Science. Near the end of World War II, she met Judson Samuel Custer, who was serving in the Army Air Corps. They married on June 22, 1946 in First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Texas.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, United Methodist Women, The Hannah Circle, Georgetown Women's Club, Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Dames Bridge Club and the VEEPS (retired Southwestern University personnel and families).
Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Judson Samuel Custer. Family who are left to cherish her memory are daughter, Eileen L. Whitacre and husband Chuck of Salado; son, Robert G Custer and partner, Ronnie Barrera of Georgetown; granddaughter, Tracy Botello and husband, David of Leander; grandson, Kyle Whitacre and wife, Helen of Los Angeles, California and granddaughter, Nicole Hehli of Salado. Louise is also survived by four great grandchildren, Julia, Devin, Finn and Lincoln.
The family also wishes to offer their deep gratitude to Louise's beloved caregiver Connie Manly.
