Lew was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. He was the loving son of Charles and Mary Grace Coco. He graduated from Muhlenberg Township High School (Reading, PA) in 1957. He attended Princeton University, graduating with a degree in Psychology in 1963. He received a PMD from Harvard Business School in 1976.
Lew had a long and successful career in business, including a lengthy tenure at J.P. Stevens & Company, culminating in his final position as CEO and owner of Julius Koch USA Inc., a manufacturer of premium textile products that was based in New Bedford, MA. While living in New Bedford, he volunteered for and chaired the board of the New Bedford Whaling Museum. He was inducted into the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame in 1999.
In his spare time, Lew loved to play golf and poker and spent many hours listening to opera. He enjoyed outdoor sportsman activities. He ran a few condo/homeowner associations. He enjoyed cooking for friends and family. For many years, he maintained his pilot’s license, crisscrossing the Northeast in his small prop planes. He traveled broadly with his wife and family. He was an avid supporter of many Princeton sports teams.
Lew is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Nancy; daughter Elizabeth Bryda and her husband Karl; son Michael Coco and his wife Liz; son Stephen Coco; step-daughter Emily Hodgson and her husband Jeff; step-son Will Hodgson and his wife Claudia; seven grandchildren (Ben, Eric, Emily, Abby, Lydia, Julia and Harper); brother Charles Coco and his wife Cathy; sister-in-law Margot and her husband Don; former spouse Alice Coco, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his three aunts, Josephine Bottone, Annie and Jennie DiCello, and his sister Diana Goldstein.
